Its frustrating sometimes when you realize that there’s a lot you can do with Twitter but most of what you see in public are restricted to the common usages. Here’s where open source scripts come into play. Here are ten such interesting open source twitter scripts that will let you do all that (almost) you couldn’t do otherwise.

1. Witty – Open Source Windows Client

Witty is a free, open source Twitter client for Windows Vista and XP powered by the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)

2. Pino – Free Open Source Twitter App for Linux

Pino is Twitter and Identi.ca client for Linux desktop. It’s simple and fast. Its written on Vala language and compiles to the native binary code.

3. Twitter for Pidgin

This Pidgin plugin inserts your Twitter history (one or more statuses) into your profile. It updates periodically, keeping your Twitter history up to date.

4. Pocket Twit open source twitter client for Windows

A twitter client for the Windows Mobile platform with some cool advanced features.

5. Twitter Friends Widget Script

Here is a jQuery plugin that you can embed anywhere to display pictures of your Twitter followers or friends (whom you follow) and their latest tweets if you like.

6. AJAX Twitter open Source Script

Based on the jQuery/AJAX, this program is written to load the status 200 of any Twitter Profile and put them in a HTML unordered list.

7. Twitter autofollow script

This is a risky one and I have to admit that I haven’t tried it yet.  What it helps you to do is search for twitter users that have tweeted with any particular term you set, and autofollow that twitter profile.

8. Script to access Twitter if blocked at your country/office

Twitter is very popular, some governments don’t like it. They use many different ways to block this website , this script makes it possible to access to the website. It uses a proxy mechanism that is supposed to bypass the blocks. And its open source.

9. Dabr – Twitter for Mobile Open Source Script

Dabr is one of my favorite mobile twitter clients, its easy to use, allows re-tweets and uses the Oath gateway to authenticate.

10. Open source script to Integrate Joomla with Twitter via OAuth

This Project enables any Joomla! powered site to integrate with Twitter’s OAuth.
